Hi, I’m Dom -
founder of WaveyDrip :)
Thanks for coming along for the ride!

california dreamin’
maybe you could Blame it on the slightly unrealistic expectations set by Laguna Beach + The O.C.…
but California was always the dream.
+ when I finally got here, it was even better. it felt like somewhere I belonged.
I was born + raised in New Zealand, but I always had a feeling I’d end up here one day.
At 19, I flew to the U.S. by myself to spend a few months in New York working at a summer camp. It gave me the opportunity to make lifelong friends + travel around the country.
but once I got to California, that was it. I was in love.
i planned my life around working at summer camp - heading back each summer, so i could spend as much time as i could in california at the end.
Something about the coastline felt like home. Driving up the Pacific coast highway reminded me so much of New Zealand — rugged, beautiful + to my surprise, the ocean was cold! Just like home!
people were barefoot, surfing, camping, cooking outside… it just clicked.
i’ve now been living in california for seven years + most recently, right here in venice beach - the kind of place I used to only see on TV.
(+ where WaveyDrip came to life!)
“i’m lucky to call both coasts home + even luckier to pour a piece of each into waveydrip.”
the waveydrip story begins
→ the 1990s
Growing up in wellington, new zealand + spending a large chunk of my time on Waikanae Beach (pictured), life was simple in the best way.
Barefoot summers with my cousins, sprinting across the sand, trying not to burn our feet, the prickly grass hidden in the sand dunes between our toes, riding our bikes, playing cricket, rugby + petanque, setting up shop on the side of the street - selling odds + ends from around my grandma’s house to make enough money to buy lollies at the dairy…
it was where so many memories were made.
We spent many hours of our days on the beach + in the water — some of the moments that shaped me, from childhood through to early adulthood, happened right here in waikanae.
→ but let’s quickly rewind to ~1970
there was a towel + it lived in my grandma’s house on Waikanae Beach, tucked among a mix of everything… but it was the one you always noticed. Funky greens, yellows + pinks covered in flowers.
It had been around since ~1970 — it wasn’t unusual for my grandma to hold onto things for decades.
Everytime I opened up the cloest, it was there. staring at me.
that towel became the unexpected foundation for WaveyDrip — inspiring the colors + the flower logo.
→ 2023 - 2024
Fast forward to the summer of 2023 - at this point, my wife + I had been living in Los Angeles for four years.
her birthday was coming up + as she had started surfing more + more, i decided to go on a hunt for a towel poncho of sorts.
I was looking for something fun + bright but also practical + good quality. i was probably looking for something a little too specific because i was getting frustrated at the selection.
but that’s when the first thought occured; why can’t i just make one myself?
while casually mentioning it to a few friends, I started playing around with logos + brand names for fun.
Their responses were;
“wait, this is actually a really cool idea”
"You have to do this”
and from then on, it kind of never left my mind.
→ 2025 (The turning point)
at the beginning of 2025, an unexpected life event left me without a job + no real plan.
deep down, i knew it was finally time to do something creative.
I remember sitting in a café one day, thinking about how I’d just been given the gift of time.
I wrote in my journal: “use your time wisely.”
i knew the universe was telling me it was now or never.
so… one day i started researching, calling manufacturers, designing, sewing, taking free business courses online - all while shark tank played in the background.
i taught myself everything I could - basically winging it.
What once felt like a little side project quickly became something real — 2025 marked the official beginning of WaveyDrip.
never stop creating.
Thank you to my friends, family + community. your support means the absolute world.
remember - Your creativity is a light that connects us, inspires those around you + reminds us that even in a world of chaos, there is still beauty to be made.
+ It’s never too late to start.
- dom :)
